Day 40: Tuesdays with Elliot is Back
8 miles, 55:39 - 6:56 pace (no mile splits)
2 weeks after suffering the calf setback while running on the hillside with Elliot, I arrived back to the scene to prove I was 100% back. Sure enough, I passed with flying colors, no calf pain whatsoever.
I forgot my GPS watch at home, but I had previously mapped out an 8 miler, so at least I could record my overall time and pace accurately. Our pace was solid and I didn't feel myself pressing so much on the uphills, so I'm definitely getting stronger.
Throughout the run my lower back and glutes had a nagging tightness, so aferwards Elliot and I did some intense stretches. He put me through about 7 minutes of torture, and when it was all over, I felt better than I have in a long time. Tomorrow is my first tempo run, and I can't wait to get to it.
As for the weather, how bizarre! Yesterday, the needle topped out at 97 degrees and by 8am it was already in the 80s. Today I expected more of the same, but instead we encountered light rain throughout our run. But the humidity was so bad I sweat as if it were 90 degrees.
Yesterday, I mentioned I would talk about hydration today, but with today's rain and clouds, it just can't get in the mood to do it. That being said, cold and humid mornings like today will dehydrate you just as bad as the hot ones, so make sure you don't skimp on hydrating.
Oh, and as for Elliot, the kid is taking care of business. He's up ot 70+ miles this week with a couple afternoon double day runs thrown in for good measure. He's determined to make a splash during his sophomore cross country season at Cal Baptist.
