Day 42: Surprise Rainy Day Run
6 miles, stopping to stretch after the 1st, 45;27 - 7:35 pace (8:18, 7:39, 7:20, 7:19, 7:39, 7:13)
Though the weather has been odd lately with overcast, drizzly conditions giving way on some days to sunny, hot afternoons, I was more than mildly surprised to step out the door to be met by full own showers. That being said, it wasn't the cold, windy, soggy miserable rain. It was more a steady rainfall that lacked the humidity of the previous days and made for overall pleasant conditions.
With my miserable tempo run only a day behind me, I anticipated some residual effects of that disaster on today's run. Overall, I'd say it went as good as I could have hoped for.
As I figured, my lower back was terribly tight. I took the opening mile really slow and stopped to stretch, focusing mainly on the back. After that I gradually loosened up. I took it really easy, never trying to push the pace, hit a certain pace, or exceed my comfort zone. I was happy my pace stayed consistent with the exception of the 5th mile.
By the end of the run, my back was still tight, but it felt considerably better than when I started. That was my goal of today's run. I will continue to ice and heat my back in hopes that I will be 100% for my 12 mile long run on Saturday.
Week 6 totals = 47 miles in 6 days (7.8 avg. per day). This is my highest mileage week yet, so I'm moving in the right direction again.
